Music Theatre announces its first implementation
of "Kidstown After School" at Kipp Central City
in New Orleans, LA. Thirty of Kipp's kindergarten students
will perform Delfeayo Marsalis' jazzy new musical " Stompers
Save Mardi Gras!" on Thursday, February 19, 2009. The
students have worked for 6 weeks with esteemed director John
Grimsley, Kaia Livers, and Marsalis on their first ever stage
production. The set will be created by two of Kipp's 6th
grade students.
" Working with 5 year-olds is a trip!" says Marsalis, who is known
for his work with hundreds of middle and high school students over the past decade
in New Orleans. Partial funding was provided by Minneapolis-based "Under
the Radar" foundation, which made a generous donation to UMT earlier this
year. Just in time for Mardi Gras, the kids will celebrate by working together
on their own stage production.
